Abstract
The purpose of this study was to find the effect of ankle joint taping methods on balance ability and muscle strength in elderly people. Subjects consisted of 16 people over the age of 65 who are living in Suncheon. We divided participants into 3 group: Group 1 was treated by general kinesiotaping, Group 2 was managed by 0% stretched taping, and Group3 received 20% stretched taping. They were measured for balance ability by one leg standing test (OLST), functional reach test (FRT), time up and go test (TUGT), and muscle strength by Nicholas before and 30 minutes rest after applying taping. Also, after rest, measured balance ability and muscle strength after applying 20% stretched taping. The data was analyzed with one way ANOVA. There was a statistically significant effect for balance and muscle strength before and after applying taping (p<0.05). There was a significant effect in 20% stretched tapping more than 0% stretched tapping on FRT and TUGT except OLST in balance and muscle strength (p<0.05). As a result of this study, applying stretched taping is expected to be effective methods in treatment or rehabilitation program of geriatrics with more than 65 yr and leads to improve strength and balance ability.
